The Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (Qld) (SPA) provides the legislative framework for planning and development assessment in Queensland. SPA provides for the Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS), which is the system used for lodgement, assessment and approval of development applications.
Certain types of development will require assessment in accordance with the IDAS process. The following activities constitute development which may require approval in accordance with the IDAS process.
Making a material change of use - establishing a new business or activity on a site
Reconfiguring a lot - includes a standard subdivision, boundary realignment and amalgamation of lots
Carrying out operational works - includes filling and excavation, installing an advertising device, clearing vegetation and certain works in watercourses or tidal waters
Council recommends engaging a Town Planner when considering complex planning matters.
The completed Development Application, along with the applicable fees must be lodged with Council either by post, over the counter at the Normanton or Karumba Council Office or by email to council@carpentaria.qld.gov.au.
