EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Independent Chairperson – Audit and Risk Committee

Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to serve in the role of Independent Chairperson on the Audit and Risk Committee.

The opportunity:
The Audit and Risk Committee is a source of independent advice and objective insights and assurance to Carpentaria Shire Council regarding finance, governance, risk management and audit related matters. The Independent Chairperson is responsible for ensuring the Audit and Risk Committee meetings are run smoothly and the annual work plan is developed and executed. The committee meets four times per year. The appointment is for a three-year term. The Audit and Risk Committee charter can be found here Audit and Risk Committee Charter.

Essential criteria:

Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, governance, law, risk management or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience on audit, risk, governance or finance committees.
Strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.
Experience in risk management and organisational governance.
Ability to act independently and free from conflicts of interest.
Demonstrated meeting chair and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable experience:

Local government experience.
CPA, CA, IIA, GAICD or equivalent professional membership.
Internal or external audit experience.
Experience in regional or remote local government.

Remuneration:
Current remuneration for the Independent Chairperson is $1,500 (excluding GST) per meeting, plus reasonable travel and accommodation costs. Successful candidates will be required to submit an invoice for each committee meeting attendance.
