Community Message from the LDMG

Back

The Carpentaria Shire Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) met on Friday 21 August 2020 to discuss the impacts and progress concerning the coronavirus COVID-19.

The LDMG discussed the planning that is occurring behind the scenes to ensure we are as best prepared as we can be during these times. Plans are currently underway to ensure pop-up clinics for mass testing can be established and operational in Normanton and Karumba as required.

Mayor Jack Bawden, Chair of the LDMG, said “the car park at John Henry Oval in Normanton and the Truck Stop at Karumba have been identified as the locations for the mass testing pop up clinics when required.”

“Queensland Health are leading the clinical response and the LDMG will be responsible for accommodation and transportation of patients” he said.

The LDMG and representatives from Queensland Health will be working through the Tier Plans being prepared for the community and the Normanton Hospital.

Community members are reminded that COVID-19 is still a threat and we all need to do our best to ensure we remain COVID-19 free. The North West, South West and Central West have remained COVID-19 free since this pandemic was identified and declared.

Queensland currently has 18 active cases with 15 of those in hospital.

“We need to maintain the social distancing of 1.5 metres, using the hand sanitiser and looking after our own personal hygiene ensuring we wash our hands and not become complacent”, Mayor Bawden said.
