Tender for Waste Management Services

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held in Normanton on Thursday 20th May, Council resolved to call for Expressions of Interest for the management of the waste services at Normanton Landfill and the Karumba Transfer Station.

Interested persons are invited to submit tenders via Vendor Panel and tenders were open to the public on Wednesday 26th May 2021 and will close on Wednesday 30 June 2021. Interested persons may also seek clarification through the Vendor Panel query function.

Mayor Jack Bawden said, “the Councillors were keen to allow sufficient time for interested persons to consider this request for tender and we have allowed additional time past the usual 21 days for Tenders”.

“Interested persons are encouraged to give this full consideration and not leave preparing tenders until the last minute, he said.

Manager Water and Waste Ben Hill said, “the Normanton landfill site receives refuse from within the Shire including from the Karumba Waste Transfer Station. We propose to contract out the operations of both the Normanton and Karumba refuse sites (including the transport of refuse from Karumba to the Normanton Landfill). Council will continue with the refuse collection using their refuse truck.

The tenderer will be responsible for all operations at the site with Council to undertake no work in the operations or maintenance of the sites. Council has a recently refurbished Bomag 28t landfill compactor on a long-term dry hire until approximately August 2023 which is to be used by the successful tenderer until the end of the plant hire arrangement”.

“The facilities are currently compliant with legislative requirements and are meeting Council’s Environmental Authority (EA). The successful tenderer must ensure the facilities continue to meet these requirements when in their operation”, he said.
