Yappar Street Valves Upgrade

Choked valve

Karumba water repairs in previous years has meant the shutdown of the majority of the network to carry out necessary repairs, disrupting a majority of businesses in the area. With the availability of the Works 4 Queensland COVID funding Council was able to fund the installation of a series of valves that will provide a more effective isolation of the problem areas and causing limited disruption to a majority of businesses in the future.

Manager Water and Waste Ben Hill said, “this project will allow Council to isolate smaller sections of the water network to carry out repairs and maintenance whenever burst mains occur in Karumba. Since the old valves didn’t function, the entire town and surrounding areas needed to be shut off to perform any works. The image opposite is a choked valve, is the inside of one of the valves on the main trunk line which was badly corroded and was also causing flow and pressure loss”.

Council appreciates the contribution that Works for Queensland has made in assisting us to get this work completed.
