Renewable Energy Community Consultation

Back

The Department of Energy and Public Works would like to share an update on the progress of the Queensland Government’s $145 million Queensland Renewable Energy Zone (QREZ) commitment.

On 10 August 2021, the Honourable Mick de Brenni MP, Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen and Minister for Public Works and Procurement released the Community Consultation Paper ‘Local benefits in Queensland Renewable Energy Zones’ and associated online survey.

This Consultation Paper sets out four local benefits principles and relevant case studies, seeking feedback from communities on what benefits they would like to see from QREZ development.

Both the survey and Consultation Paper are available at www.qld.gov.au/renewable-energy-zones.

These local benefits principles are an important part of our QREZ consultation program and we encourage you to complete the survey and share it widely. Responses are welcomed until 30 September 2021. Written submissions are also welcome should that be preferred.

We want to understand what local communities, small business, manufacturers and renewables and hydrogen project developers view as important in the development of renewable energy zones in Queensland and how to deliver lasting, meaningful benefits for host communities and local businesses and workers.

This is the first time in Queensland that communities will be able to have their say on how renewable projects and energy infrastructure within the QREZ are developed to benefit them and their regions. This is about ensuring community views and genuine local benefits are front and centre in the development process for QREZ.

Further engagement in addition to this survey will be published on the QREZ web page. Should you have any questions or wish to register your interest for QREZ updates, please visit www.qld.gov.au/renewable-energy-zones and get in touch via the online form.
