Writing for Real Life – Normanton State School

Earlier this year our Year 3 students read the book ‘Cyclone’ by Jackie French and learnt about cyclone preparation, as cyclones are a regular occurrence for communities in the Gulf.  The students then wrote a persuasive letter to the council, persuading them to provide every house in the Carpentaria Shire with a cyclone kit.

The council considered their request and have now provided all families of students attending Normanton State School, Karumba State School and the Gulf Christian College with a torch, radio and batteries.

Not only will our students be prepared for cyclone season, but they now understand the power of the pen.

Well done Year 3 Students at Normanton State School!
